The Ladybird
The seven-spotted ladybird was chosen insect of the year 2006. Besides the characteristics of this and other ladybird species, the film also shows the reproduction and develop- ment of various species and their geographic ranges. Fur- thermore, this DVD puts emphasis on the explanation of the ecological web of relationships the ladybird is part of. Here, the relation with humans also plays a role as people have always valued ladybirds because they kill aphids and are pretty to look at. Apart from the ladybird itself, several natural enemies such as insects and spiders are shown in impressive close-ups. Is there anything unusual about Father Xavier, a coloured missionary from India, working as a priest in Germany? The film begins with Xavier in his Indian home village where people Christianity is part of people’s everyday lives. Then we see him work as a chaplain in a community in Munich where he is faced with the situation of the Church in Germany: empty rows and mainly senior churchgoers. He learns that foreigners are not always welcomed with open arms. What does “mission” mean today? Has Germany become a place in need of missionary work? If there is a shortage of young priests in Germany, is it possible to simply invite young priests from other cultures, from the churches of Asia, Africa and Latin America to come here? Are they bringing the message they once received from missionaries back to Europe? Does evangelisation now take place the other way round?

Capitals of Central Europe I
This DVD presents the German-speaking capitals of Central Europe, Berlin, Bern, Vaduz and Vienna. By way of introduction, the pupils learn about the natural and climatic boundaries of the Central European region and which countries it encompasses. Based on this, the film first focuses on the topographic situation of the respective capital of the countries of Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein, and the history of the cities’ foundation is briefly outlined. To illustrate their function as capitals, the government buildings in Berlin, Bern, Vaduz and Vienna are described but the DVD also goes into the respective infrastructural and economic particularities. Impressive pictures and the accompanying material give a lasting account of the growth of the metropolis of Vienna thanks to its favourable geographic situation at the Danube trade route and the Habsburg dynasty. The traces of Berlin’s division into West Berlin and East Berlin are documented, Bern is shown in its special role as federal capital of Switzerland and capital of the canton of Bern, and Vaduz is introduced as small capital of international repute as a financial centre.
